Indian bread

Last Friday we prepared Indian bread in class. To 500 gms of whole wheat flour one cup of water was added gradually, mixing gently to obtain a stiff dough. Then the dough was kneaded and worked on till it was smooth and allowed to stand for an hour.
Likewise, we made a green dough using spinach paste.
There after, we took a little dough and made into a ball and then flattened it and rolled into a round chapati . Then chapati was cooked with a blob of butter . We prepared the plain and spinach chapatis and enjoyed them with peas, potatoes and mint raita ( beaten yogurt with mint ).
We have been learning about healthy foods and know that eating a variety of food makes a balanced diet.

This Indian bread called chapati can be eaten with lentils, raita, vegetables etc and is usually served in a thali with many side dishes.

Most of us enjoyed our bread with peas.

The best part was rolling our our own chapatis and see them fluff up as they cooked on hot griddle.
